Chairman of the Policy Manifesto Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), John Odigie-Oyegun, has declared that the 2027 general elections will represent a decisive confrontation between Nigerians and what he described as their oppressors.
Oyegun made the statement on Friday while speaking on Prime Time, a political affairs programme on Arise Television, where he outlined the ADC’s emerging campaign message ahead of the next electoral cycle.
According to the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the 2027 elections will not be business as usual, insisting that Nigerians across all sectors are yearning for genuine change.
“With the ADC, it will not be business as usual. Everybody wants change,” Oyegun said.
He disclosed that significant sacrifices are currently being made by party members and supporters across various strata of society as the ADC positions itself as an alternative political force.
“This time, we have a big message, a totally different message to coin. We have to start with an apology — sorry we have disappointed you repeatedly. It’s not just about the last goal,” he said.
Oyegun also spoke on the recent wave of defections into the APC, suggesting that a mass migration of political actors into the ruling party would clarify political alignments ahead of 2027.
“With the wave of defections into the APC, we are praying — in fact, we will bring out brass bands if the rest also join the APC,” he remarked.
He argued that such realignments would simplify the political contest and sharpen the narrative of the next election.
“So the struggle for the future becomes very clear. It will be about designing the kind of campaign that reflects what is coming — the people versus their oppressors, made up of so many governors and others,” Oyegun added.
The ADC chieftain said the party is working towards presenting a clear ideological alternative that places citizens at the centre of governance, as Nigeria approaches what he described as a defining electoral moment in 2027.
