Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, while dismissing claims that he has endorsed any candidate for the Rivers State governorship race.
Speaking at a joint meeting of stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, Wike made it clear that his only current political endorsement is for Tinubu.
He stressed that decisions regarding governorship endorsements remain the responsibility of party elders, warning against the growing trend of premature declarations driven by personal ambition.
The FCT minister cautioned political actors against actions capable of creating divisions within the ranks, noting that the strength of the group lies in its unity rather than financial influence.
According to him, there are deliberate efforts by external forces to destabilise the cooperation among stakeholders, which he described as a successful political alliance. He urged members to focus on advancing the state rather than engaging in activities that could fracture the group.
Wike also expressed displeasure with individuals who, after benefiting from the group’s support through political appointments, turn around to criticise its leadership. He described such actions as a betrayal and a reflection of poor character.
He further warned against attempts by some actors to undermine others through dishonest means, insisting such efforts would ultimately fail.
Addressing speculations about his position on upcoming elections, Wike maintained that he has not endorsed any aspirant for either the APC or PDP at the state level, reiterating that his stance remains consistent both publicly and privately.
“Anything I say in the night is what I will say in the daytime,” he said, underscoring his commitment to transparency.
The minister commended party leaders, council chairmen, and elders from Rivers State for their collaboration in organising the stakeholder meeting, noting that the absence of grievances reflected effective inclusion and coordination.
As political activities gradually build toward future elections, Wike’s remarks signal a call for discipline, unity, and structured decision-making within party ranks.
