Nollywood actress Mercy JohnsonOkojie has formally accepted her appointment as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo.
The actress confirmed the development on Friday via a statement shared on her Instagram page, a day after the Edo State Government announced her appointment.
“I am deeply honoured and sincerely grateful to His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Executive Governor of Edo State, for the trust and confidence reposed in me,” she wrote.
Describing the role as more than a ceremonial title, Johnson-Okojie said the appointment represents “a call to connect, to listen, and to advocate with purpose.
” She pledged to carry out her responsibilities with humility and dedication, aligning her efforts with the administration’s SHINE Agenda focused on responsive governance and sustainable development.
“To the great people of Edo State: this role is about you—your voices, your stories, and your participation in governance,” she stated.
“Together, we will deepen civic engagement, strengthen trust, and advance a people-centered Edo where every voice truly counts.”
She concluded by expressing appreciation for the support she has received and signaled readiness to begin work immediately.
The appointment was earlier announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, who said the governor approved the move to strengthen communication and engagement between the government and residents.
The government described Johnson-Okojie as an accomplished actress, producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist with nearly two decades in Nollywood and over 200 film credits.
Through her Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation, she has supported initiatives focused on women empowerment, child welfare, education, and healthcare outreach.
Her appointment marks a significant intersection between entertainment and governance in Edo State.
