The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared confidence in securing victory in the August 8 governorship election, citing growing public support and recent political defections.

A chieftain of the party, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, said the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have strengthened the party’s prospects ahead of the poll.

Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye maintained that the performance of APC governors across the country, coupled with the legacy of the party’s previous administration in Osun, would play a decisive role in delivering victory for the party’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

He further attributed the party’s growing momentum to what he described as renewed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, noting that politicians from opposition parties have continued to defect to the APC.

According to him, the recent defection of five Osun federal lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties signals what he termed an “impending victory” for Oyebamiji.

“The defection of the five PDP National Assembly lawmakers and the endorsement of the President for a second term are clear indications that the people of Osun love the APC and are ready to return it to office on August 8,” Oyintiloye said.

He described Oyebamiji as competent, dependable, and committed to fulfilling his campaign promises, assuring residents that the party remains focused on reclaiming the state and repositioning it for sustainable growth.

Oyintiloye also credited the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, who is regarded as the party leader in the state, for sustaining the APC’s structure despite being out of power. He said Oyetola and other stakeholders have implemented a framework to integrate defectors without alienating existing members.

The APC chieftain urged residents not to be swayed by what he described as smear campaigns by rival parties, insisting that Oyebamiji and other party leaders are focused on redirecting Osun toward development.

He also encouraged opposition members considering defection to follow the example of the five National Assembly lawmakers who recently joined the APC, adding that the party has the capacity to accommodate new entrants.

With weeks to the governorship poll, the Osun APC says it remains optimistic that voter sentiment and recent political realignments will translate into victory at the ballot.
