Igboho Calls for Strong Diplomatic Effort to Boost Nigeria’s Global Reputation

Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has called on Nigeria’s newly appointed career and non-career ambassadors to work closely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in strengthening the country’s global reputation.

In a statement released on Saturday, Igboho urged the diplomats to leverage their experience, expertise, and leadership qualities to promote Nigeria’s interests and rebuild the nation’s image in the international community.

He also encouraged Nigerians across ethnic, religious, and political lines to project the country positively despite prevailing economic and social challenges.

Igboho’s remarks followed the recent announcement by the presidency confirming the appointment and deployment of 65 ambassadors to various diplomatic missions around the world.

The appointments were disclosed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Among those named are former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, who was posted to Germany; former Minister of Health Isaac Adewole, assigned to Canada; political commentator Reno Omokri, posted to Mexico; and retired Lieutenant-General Abdulrahman Dambazau, assigned to China.

Others include former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayodeji Oke, posted to France, and Chioma Ohakim, assigned to Poland.

Igboho particularly expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for appointing Fani-Kayode as Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany, describing the decision as commendable.

He also acknowledged the roles played by the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Francis Olushola Alao, and Tinubu’s legal counsel, Oluwole Afolabi, in the process leading to the appointment.

According to Igboho, the selection of competent individuals for diplomatic missions would help strengthen Nigeria’s representation abroad and improve its international perception.

The activist further urged Nigerians, regardless of tribe, religion, political affiliation, or ethnicity, to support efforts aimed at promoting the country’s interests globally.

He noted that despite the nation’s socio-economic challenges, collective efforts by citizens and government officials could help restore confidence in Nigeria on the international stage.
