President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign received a significant boost on Wednesday as the Accord Party in Oyo State declared its readiness to align with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to secure victory for the President in the state.
The party’s governorship candidate, Oriyomi Hamzat, formally threw his weight behind Tinubu’s candidacy while receiving former Senate Leader and the party’s 2023 governorship candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin, in his Ibadan office.
Folarin visited to solicit the support of Hamzat and other Accord Party members for Tinubu’s re-election bid in Oyo State.
In his response, Hamzat assured the President of the full support of himself and his large following, but urged the administration to prioritise the welfare of citizens.
“In as much as we are ready to support the re-election of Tinubu in 2027, his administration should be centred around the governed,” Hamzat said. “Government should place a premium on the wellbeing of the people. Traditional rulers, elders and other stakeholders should be accorded due respect.
“Also, as we are ready to support Tinubu, the gesture should be reciprocated for all our candidates at the state level.”
Earlier, Folarin had appealed for Hamzat’s grassroots mobilisation skills to be deployed in favour of the President.
“I know you are the governorship candidate of a political party, but we need your support and that of your teeming followers for the re-election of Tinubu,” Folarin said. “I know the country is facing multifaceted challenges, but I can assure you that all these issues will be addressed by Mr President.
“All these issues were raised during my meetings with President Tinubu. Let us mobilise support for him in Oyo State. There is no doubt that you are a grassroots mobiliser. We want you to use this to our advantage in the coming election.”
The development signals growing cross-party collaboration in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
