APC Sets May 2026 Presidential Primary, Releases Full 2027 Election Timetable

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced its official timetable for the 2027 general elections, scheduling its presidential primary election for May 15 and 16, 2026.

Details of the schedule, signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, reveal that the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms will run from April 25 to May 2, 2026, at the party’s National Secretariat. Aspirants are expected to submit completed forms no later than May 4.

The APC fixed the cost of its presidential nomination at ₦100 million, with ₦30 million allocated for the expression of interest and ₦70 million for the nomination form.

Governorship aspirants will pay ₦50 million, while those seeking seats in the Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly will pay ₦20 million, ₦10 million, and ₦6 million respectively.

Screening of aspirants is slated for May 6 to May 8, with results to be announced on May 11. Appeals will be entertained between May 12 and May 13.

The party’s timetable shows that the presidential primary will lead a series of staggered primaries for other positions. House of Representatives primaries are set for May 18, followed by the Senate on May 20, State Houses of Assembly on May 21, and governorship primaries on May 23.

All appeals across categories are expected to be concluded by May 25, with the APC noting that the entire primary process will be wrapped up within eight days.

In a bid to encourage broader participation, the party approved concessions for female aspirants, youths, and persons living with disabilities, requiring them to pay only the expression of interest fee and 50 per cent of the nomination cost.

The timetable, according to the party, complies with the provisions of the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
