Alhaji Adamu Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has resigned from his position as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in the administration of Ahmadu Fintiri.

Adamu announced his immediate withdrawal from the Fintiri-led executive council after distancing himself from last Friday’s mass political defections involving his principal and most members of the state government.

In a resignation letter made available to journalists on Monday night, Adamu said his decision followed “deep personal reflection and careful consideration.”

He expressed appreciation to Governor Fintiri for the opportunity to serve in his cabinet and extended gratitude to the people of Adamawa State for their “steadfast prayers, encouragement, and unwavering support” throughout his tenure.

The resignation comes on the heels of Governor Fintiri’s dramatic exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday, February 27. The governor reportedly moved to the APC alongside virtually all officials in his administration.

While 22 commissioners, 39 special advisers, and the entire state executive committee of the PDP defected en masse, Adamu was among only three commissioners who initially refrained from leaving the party that day.

His resignation now signals a further deepening of the political realignment in Adamawa State, as the fallout from the governor’s defection continues to reshape the state’s political landscape.
