President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to national unity and inclusive development, calling on Nigerians to embrace peace and collective responsibility in tackling insecurity.
In his Eid-el-Fitr message to Muslim faithful, the President urged prayers for the country’s stability and prosperity, stressing that the spiritual lessons of Ramadan—piety, sacrifice, compassion, and selflessness—remain essential to building a stronger nation.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu encouraged Islamic leaders to intercede for Nigeria at a critical time in its history.
“We must continue to abide by the virtues of perseverance, kindness, and compassion beyond Ramadan,” the President said, urging citizens to extend generosity to the less privileged regardless of religious or ethnic divides.
He noted that Eid-el-Fitr is not only a period of celebration but also a time for reflection on shared responsibility toward national progress, expressing optimism that unity and patriotism would steer Nigeria toward greater development.
Top lawmakers, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, also urged Nigerians to unite and confront insecurity collectively.
Akpabio, in his goodwill message, called on Muslims to sustain the values of compassion, forgiveness, and generosity cultivated during Ramadan, noting that such virtues are vital for fostering national harmony.
“This celebration reminds us of the need to promote understanding and build a more just and peaceful society,” he said.
Speaker Abbas expressed optimism that Nigeria is on the path to renewal, attributing recent stability to the prayers and resilience of citizens.
He described the simultaneous observance of Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season as a “divine arrangement” symbolising unity across faiths.
“We are one people united by a common good,” Abbas stated, urging Nigerians not to relent in prayers and devotion.
Senate Leader Bamidele stressed that addressing insecurity requires more than military force, advocating a balanced approach that includes human capital development.
Referencing recent security incidents in Maiduguri, he called for investments in education, healthcare, and social protection as long-term solutions to extremism.
He also revealed that the National Assembly is advancing legislative efforts, including a national security summit and constitutional amendments to empower sub-national governments in security matters.
Deputy Speaker Kalu encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful despite economic and security challenges, assuring that government reforms and legislative actions are aimed at improving citizens’ welfare.
He urged citizens to reflect on the enduring values of sacrifice and resilience, expressing confidence that “a brighter tomorrow is near.”
Collectively, the leaders emphasised that unity, faith, and shared responsibility remain Nigeria’s strongest tools in overcoming insurgency and achieving lasting peace.
