Popular Nigerian skit maker and actor Samuel Perry, better known as Broda Shaggi, has shared a harrowing account of surviving a stray bullet attack that left him unconscious and temporarily unable to walk.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Shaggi said the incident occurred on March 9, 2026, during a brand activation event. He and his team had just finished the outing and were leaving the venue when a loud bang rang out. Moments later, he felt blood on his hip and realised he had been hit by a stray bullet.

“It was just a normal day… until the devil decided to show up,” he recalled. “We were done with the activation, we were already leaving, and all of a sudden, I heard a loud bang… I touched my hip and saw blood.”

Shaggi said he lost consciousness before arriving at the first hospital. His condition later deteriorated, prompting medical staff to transfer him to another facility. There, he was quickly moved to the emergency room.

“All that was in my mind was just to survive. I didn’t want to die,” he said. “I was sweating, holding my leg; I was seeing blood. I just wanted to hear a doctor telling me, ‘Samuel, you’ll be fine.’”

After the immediate danger passed, Shaggi realised he could no longer move his leg — a development that raised fears about his ability to continue performing the physical comedy routines associated with his character, including the popular “Oya hit me” skit.

The following morning, as the physical pain eased, emotional questions set in. “I started asking myself, ‘Why me?’” he said. Reflecting on years of nonstop work since 2018, he eventually interpreted the incident as a forced opportunity to rest.

Shaggi later travelled to Dubai for surgery. He has since regained the ability to walk and stand independently, though he still relies on crutches for support and has not fully recovered.

“Throughout this period, one thing I keep saying is that I am grateful because it could have been worse,” he stated. “It is a new reality, and I have not fully recovered yet.”
