Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator, Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggy, has reportedly been hospitalised after sustaining a gunshot injury during a skit production.
The incident was said to have occurred on Sunday afternoon under the bridge in Sango-Ota.
According to sources familiar with the situation, the comedian was filming a comedy skit at the location when the shooting occurred. Details surrounding the circumstances of the incident remain unclear.
A police source who spoke on condition of anonymity disclosed that the skit maker sustained the injury while filming and was immediately rushed to Blooming Care Hospital for emergency treatment.
“He was shooting a skit under the Sango-Ota bridge when he sustained a gunshot injury. We do not yet have full details of how it happened, but his crew members who were present quickly rushed him to the hospital,” the source said.
Medical personnel at the facility reportedly administered first aid upon his arrival before he was later referred to Duchess Hospital, where he is currently receiving further treatment and recuperating.
Efforts by journalists to reach the hospitals for confirmation were unsuccessful, as calls to their publicly listed contact numbers did not connect, while text messages sent had not been responded to as of the time of filing this report.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, said the police were alerted by the hospital after the injured victim was brought in.
“The hospital contacted the police to report that a gunshot victim had been brought to their facility. Detectives and a patrol team were immediately mobilised to the hospital, where they discovered that the victim was a skit maker and social media influencer popularly known as Broda Shaggy,” she said.
Adebisi added that the comedian was found on a stretcher with an injury to his thigh. She noted, however, that the incident location falls outside the Lagos command’s jurisdiction.
“The location of the incident is in Sango-Ota and not within our jurisdiction, but investigation is ongoing,” she added.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the alleged shooting had not been officially reported to the command.
“The incident was alleged to have occurred in Ogun State, but it was not reported,” he stated.
Attempts to reach Broda Shaggy’s manager, Olufemi Oguntamu, popularly known as Penzaar, were unsuccessful as calls placed to his phone were not answered and a text message sent had yet to receive a response.
The incident comes months after another Nigerian content creator, Afeez Ojesanmi, popularly known as Salo, was reportedly robbed of his jewellery and shot in the Lekki area of Lagos in October 2024.
