The Northern leaders have failed the North. Traditional and religious leaders alike, are all failures.
The North is the home of bloodshed and mayhem.
Why? Are we not as human as others? Or others are more human than we are?
I just don’t get it.
From Maitatsine to Boko Haram and other crisis that have rocked Nigeria, north has the highest record. Why is it this way?
Growing up as a northern boy in a Yoruba town, I know what we had to endure in shame and name calling.
As a kid, I didn’t know why they stereotyped the Northern man with killings until when I could read. I just grew up been called ‘Aboki’ , ‘Malo’.
Malo actually is ‘maalu’ which is cow in Yoruba. It was very offensive and shaming.
The day I knew why we’re stereotyped with violence was when two men were having a brawl.
In a twinkle of an eye, both men have drawn their daggers and ready to take each other’s life. Just like that? No wonder.
Then I stopped fighting back coz that’s what we have earned. What a worthy and noble reputation.
Now, in Kaduna, my people are doing what they know how to do best, killing each other. The innocent now running to safety. I feel for the pregnant.
Why can’t we just be logical and decipher good from evil?
Please, killing is ugly. Life is beautiful. This reputation hurts. I wish you know how we feel among non northern Nigerians.
Put up a lot of defence but that is not removing the reality that crisis is synonymous with our dear people.
Northern Muslims and Christians, let’s be humane and human.
