Davido Joins Osun Politics, Named Youth Mobilisation Head for Adeleke’s Re-Election Bid

Afrobeats superstar Davido has stepped into the political arena after being appointed head of youth mobilisation for the Accord Party’s campaign council in Osun State, in a move seen as a boost to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid.

The Grammy-nominated artist announced the development on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, revealing that the appointment was made by his uncle, Governor Adeleke, who is seeking a second term in the August 2026 governorship election.

“I have been appointed by the Governor of Osun State… as head youth mobilisation of campaign council. We look forward to a smooth campaign and your re-election,” Davido wrote, signalling his active involvement in the political process.

Governor Adeleke, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) late last year, is now contesting under the Accord Party, where he has already emerged as the sole governorship candidate.

Davido’s appointment is widely viewed as a strategic effort to energise young voters and strengthen grassroots support. Having formally joined the Accord Party in December 2025 in Osogbo, the singer brings significant influence and a vast youth following that could prove pivotal at the polls.

As one of Africa’s most prominent music exports, Davido’s new role underscores the growing intersection between entertainment and politics in Nigeria, particularly in mobilising the country’s youthful electorate ahead of a crucial election cycle.
