Former presidential candidate and media entrepreneur, Dele Momodu, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring his move in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
Momodu made the announcement on Thursday while addressing supporters, stressing that his decision was driven by a desire to advance the collective interest of the people rather than personal political ambition.
He emphasised that he was not seeking any elective office in the state, dismissing speculations about possible gubernatorial or legislative aspirations.
According to him, his return to active state politics was a deliberate and long-planned decision rooted in his personal connection to Edo State.
“And I came home for the first time and I coordinated everything. It took me over 50 years of excruciating hard work and meticulous planning to build a home from my modest income in Iwe,” Momodu said.
He added that his investment in his hometown underscored his deep roots and commitment to the community.
“Today, nobody can say Dele has no roots in Iwe. I stand before you, my friends, as I humbly reintegrate myself into the political process of my state,” he stated.
Addressing questions about his political ambitions, Momodu said his focus remained on promoting the welfare and best interests of the people rather than contesting for any position.
“People have asked me what I want — whether I want to be governor or senator. No. I just want to promote the best interests of our people,” he said.
