The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) successfully held its ward congresses across all 192 wards on Wednesday, electing leaders on a consensus basis despite reports of unrest in some other states.
Addressing journalists at the party secretariat, State Chairman Emperor Jarret Tenebe, accompanied by a delegation from the APC National Secretariat, tasked the newly elected ward executives with strengthening grassroots structures and delivering effective leadership.
Tenebe highlighted the importance of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging ward leaders to drive voter participation in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
“Our Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has committed to delivering 3.5 million votes in support of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. This is a collective responsibility,” he said.
He stressed that the ward remains the foundation of the party’s political structure, closest to the grassroots and the electorate, and called on the new leaders to deepen party engagement within their communities.
Unity and Discipline at the Forefront
Tenebe commended the peaceful and seamless conclusion of the ward congresses, noting that the process was conducted without discord, adhering strictly to the National Working Committee’s guidelines.
He urged the newly elected executives to collaborate with local government leaders to maintain harmony within the party, reinforce APC structures, and ensure that party policies resonate with the people at the grassroots.
“As we approach the 2027 elections, your role in mobilising voters, promoting registration, and safeguarding Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) is crucial. The strength of democracy begins with registration,” Tenebe concluded.
With the successful ward congresses, Edo APC aims to consolidate party unity and lay the groundwork for an organised push toward the 2027 elections.
