Evra Fires Warning Shot at Lamine Yamal, Says Messi and Ronaldo Know How Tough He Was

Former Manchester United legend Patrice Evra has sparked debate after claiming he would have comfortably handled teenage sensation Lamine Yamal had they faced each other during the peak of his career.

The former France international made the remarks during an interview with ESPN UK, where he reflected on his playing days and expressed confidence in his ability to neutralize one of football’s brightest young stars.

Evra, who shared a dressing room with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United before the Portuguese superstar’s move to Real Madrid in 2009, also faced Lionel Messi on several occasions during his career.

Speaking about a hypothetical matchup with Yamal, Evra insisted the young Barcelona winger would have struggled against him.

“Evra in his prime against Yamal, I would eat him alive. I’m sorry, Lamine. I love you. But ask Cristiano, ask Messi, ask other players when they faced me. I am not a good friend,” he said.

The comments come as Yamal continues to establish himself as one of the most exciting talents in world football. The Barcelona star has already shown an ability to thrive under pressure and silence critics.

During the 2024 European Championship, former France midfielder Adrien Rabiot publicly challenged Yamal ahead of Spain’s semi-final clash against France. The youngster responded in emphatic fashion, scoring what many regarded as the goal of the tournament and helping Spain secure victory.

Yamal’s performance further enhanced his growing reputation as a player capable of delivering on the biggest stages, despite criticism and high expectations.
