Fani-Kayode Slams Dele Momodu Over Tinubu-Abacha Comparison, Urges ADC to Focus on 2027

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has strongly criticised media personality and politician Dele Momodu for comparing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to late military ruler Sani Abacha.

Momodu had, during a television appearance on Sunday, reportedly described Tinubu’s leadership style as dictatorial, drawing parallels with Abacha’s regime—remarks that sparked backlash from Fani-Kayode.

Reacting via his X account, Fani-Kayode described the comparison as unfair and disrespectful, not only to the President but also to other top government officials. While acknowledging his personal respect for Momodu, he said the veteran journalist’s comments lacked clarity and depth.

He further argued that many individuals currently serving in government—including ministers, senators and newly appointed ambassadors—possess significant governance experience, contrary to Momodu’s assertions.

Fani-Kayode also took aim at members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), urging them to prioritise strengthening their party and building a formidable opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections instead of focusing on criticising the ruling administration.

In a scathing critique, he described the ADC as ill-prepared for political competition, likening it to a rudderless entity lacking structure, direction and capacity to challenge the ruling party.

According to him, the growing support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not only due to the performance of the current administration but also because opposition parties like the ADC have failed to present credible alternatives.

He concluded by expressing confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, stating that the President “started well” and would “end well” by 2031, while urging Momodu to reconsider his political alignment.

The exchange highlights deepening political divisions as stakeholders begin positioning ahead of the next electoral cycle.
