Fayemi Claims Role in Tinubu’s 2023 Victory, Warns APC Has Lost Its Way

Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has revealed that he played a key role in President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 general elections.

Speaking on the State Affairs podcast, hosted by Edmund Obilo, Fayemi reflected on the dramatic electoral outcome, highlighting the rise of former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi as a political force that disrupted Nigeria’s traditional power dynamics.

Fayemi also expressed concern over the deepening crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC), admitting that the party he once helped build has strayed from its founding principles.

He stressed that Nigeria cannot continue under a winner-takes-all political culture that excludes millions from governance. The former governor called for inclusive politics, transparent primaries, and restructuring of the federation to ensure a more equitable system.

“I helped Tinubu become President, but the APC has lost its bearing, and Peter Obi is a phenomenon,” Fayemi stated.
