Popular businessman Isaac Fayose has alleged that five governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are secretly supporting the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a recent video posted on his social media handle, Fayose claimed the governors had pledged financial backing for the NDC’s election campaign while avoiding any public endorsement.
“We now have five APC governors supporting the NDC in this election. They are not going to come out to campaign for us. They are not going to say anything in public that will favour us, but underneath, they promised us to sponsor this election,” Fayose stated.
According to him, the governors’ main condition is to prevent Nyesom Wike from securing victories for the APC in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Rivers State.
Fayose said he told the governors in a meeting that neither Wike nor the APC enjoys significant popularity in Abuja or Rivers. He alleged their strategy involves controlling ballot processes and result announcements, which the governors reportedly acknowledged and sought to counter.
“So they are offering all our polling agents in Rivers and FCT two hundred thousand per polling unit; if you can stand together against rigging, they are willing to give you two hundred thousand naira each,” Fayose claimed.
He added that the governors insist on remaining anonymous due to their membership of the APC.
The claims, which have not been independently verified, have sparked discussions about internal party dynamics and potential cross-party alliances ahead of the 2027 polls. Neither the APC nor the named governors have publicly responded to the allegations at the time of this report.
