The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, has pledged to introduce monthly stipends for residents aged 75 and above within his first 100 days in office if elected in 2027.
Adegoke, a businessman and philanthropist, also restated his commitment to the full implementation of local government autonomy. He made the promises during a thank-you visit to the Irepo, Oorelope and Olorunsogo federal constituency.
The ADC candidate further vowed to provide free education from primary to secondary school levels across the state and to construct a rail line linking Moniya in Ibadan with the Oke-Ogun area. The rail project, he said, would ease the transportation of agricultural produce to Ibadan and other urban markets.
Adegoke thanked residents of Irepo, Oorelope and Olorunsogo local government areas for their support. He announced that he would return to the constituency to campaign once the official window opens on 9 September 2026.
Although he plans to visit all 14 federal constituencies in the state to express appreciation, Adegoke said he chose to begin with Irepo, Oorelope and Olorunsogo out of respect for the ADC state chairman, Afees Jimoh (popularly known as Ona Ara), who hails from the area.
He specifically acknowledged the people of Kishi, Igbeti and Igboho, promising to prioritise their development if elected. Adegoke noted that he had already shown commitment to the area even before securing the party’s governorship ticket and pledged further infrastructure development across Oke-Ogun and other parts of the state.
Describing Oke-Ogun as the food basket of Oyo State, Adegoke drew on his background as a graduate of Agricultural Economics from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
“People refer to Oke-Ogun as the food basket of the state. As a graduate of Agricultural Economics… I know how and what is required to assist the farmers in moving their produce to the urban areas,” he said.
“I will construct a rail line from Moniya in Ibadan to link the Oke-Ogun area so that farmers can transport their produce to markets in the urban areas. With this, the farmers will be able to give their children a good education and send them abroad to further their education and other future endeavours.”
He also restated the free education pledge, stressing that parents would not be required to pay school fees for their children in public primary and secondary schools.
ADC state chairman Afees Jimoh thanked the people of Kishi for their support, which he said contributed to Adegoke’s emergence as the party’s candidate. He urged residents to mobilise behind Adegoke and the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling for house-to-house campaigns during the presidential, governorship and other polls to enable equitable development across the state.
Those who received Adegoke included Oyo North Senatorial candidate Lanre Saheed Agoro; Irepo-Olorunsogo-Oorelope House of Representatives candidate Dr Abdulsalam Abdul Afees Babatunde; Irepo-Olorunsogo House of Assembly candidate Nasiru Ibrahim Adeniyi; Oorelope House of Assembly candidate Owolabi Samson; and other party leaders from the zone.
