From Mentoring to Mobilisation: Obi-Kwankwaso Women’s Group Sets Ambitious 2027 Agenda

A women’s support group backing the presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso has launched a nationwide mobilisation campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections, with plans to establish structures in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The Obi-Kwankwaso National Women’s Support Group said its drive formally began on 1 October following the inauguration of its national leadership. The organisation aims to deepen grassroots engagement and broaden support for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential ticket.

The move comes as the Obi-Kwankwaso political movement intensifies preparations for 2027. Obi and Kwankwaso joined the NDC in May 2026, after which Obi emerged as the party’s presidential candidate and Kwankwaso as his running mate.

According to the group, the mobilisation will target women leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, young women and community organisers through a network of grassroots structures nationwide.

Convener and National Coordinator Hon. Anwuli Ogbechi said the organisation had brought together women from diverse regions and backgrounds to boost female participation in political and community activities.

She explained that state structures would organise town hall meetings, community forums and other grassroots engagements to expand the support base for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.

Ogbechi added that the group’s work would extend beyond electoral campaigning. Planned activities include leadership mentoring and political education for young women, engagement with entrepreneurs and women in the diaspora, community-based initiatives, medical and educational outreach programmes, and inclusion efforts for persons with disabilities and other underserved communities.

The national leadership team includes Mairo Musa Abubakar (Vice Coordinator, North), Pastor Basiratu Musa Ibijoke (Deputy Coordinator, South), Lolo Victoria Mgbor Odogwu (General Secretary), Tina Ohwo (Organising Secretary), and Hajia Fadimatu Atiku Danrimi (Treasurer).

Other officials are Chika Ibe (Financial Secretary), Barr. Igbinlade Oluwagboyinmi Oluwatunmise (Legal Adviser), Chinyere O. Ejike and Blessing Okoli (Publicity Secretaries), Esther Ajayi-Adetayo (Welfare Officer), and Comrade Ifeoma Uchechukwu (FCT and National Director of Interfaith and Intertribal Affairs).

The women’s initiative forms part of broader efforts by the Obi-Kwankwaso movement to build campaign structures ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The movement recently set up a 59-member presidential campaign council that includes state and zonal coordinators as well as officials handling mobilisation, women’s affairs, strategy and legal matters.

The women’s group said its immediate focus is to expand its grassroots network, coordinate activities across the states and draw more women into its political and community programmes as preparations for the 2027 contest gather pace.
