From Training Pitch to Death Trap: Agent Reveals How SARS Encounter Ended Kazeem ‘Kaka’ Tiyamiyu’s Life

The manager and agent of late Remo Stars vice-captain, Tiyamiyu Kazeem, popularly known as Kaka, has given a chilling account of the moments that led to the footballer’s death on February 22, 2020, alleging he was killed by operatives of the now-defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Speaking on the incident, Aramide recounted that the tragedy unfolded shortly after the team returned from a routine training session, with no indication of the fatal turn events would take.

According to him, Kazeem had casually mentioned plans to visit his father after training, as they both prepared to relax and watch an English Premier League match.

“We had just returned from training and were waiting to watch the Premier League when Kaka said he wanted to see his dad,” Aramide said.

Before leaving, the footballer agreed to help pick up beans at Aramide’s request and departed alongside teammate Sanni Abubakar. Minutes later, the normalcy of the day shattered.

“Just a few minutes after they left, Sanni called me, saying Kaka had been killed by SARS. I was in shock. That call changed everything,” he recalled.

Aramide said the fatal encounter reportedly occurred along the Sagamu–Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State, where Kazeem was allegedly stopped and apprehended by SARS operatives.

“The next thing I heard, he was gone,” he added.

Describing the deceased as disciplined and full of promise, Aramide rejected any insinuation of wrongdoing, insisting the footballer was a victim of brutality.

“He was not a criminal. He was a footballer, a leader, and a young man with a future. He didn’t just die — he was killed,” he said.

Kazeem’s death ignited widespread outrage at the time, intensifying public scrutiny of SARS operations and amplifying demands for sweeping reforms and accountability within Nigeria’s policing system.
