Gbajabiamila Demands N10bn, Threatens Lawsuit Over Murder, Corruption Allegations

Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has threatened legal action against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi over allegations linking him to murder, bribery, corruption and abuse of office, demanding N10 billion in damages for alleged defamation.

The threat was contained in a letter dated July 6, 2026, signed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kemi Pinheiro, on behalf of Pinheiro LP, Gbajabiamila’s legal representatives.

According to the letter, the allegations made by Adeyemi during a June 25 press conference were false, malicious and defamatory, accusing the Chief of Staff of corruption, criminal conduct and abuse of public office without any factual basis.

The legal team rejected claims that Gbajabiamila demanded 48 per cent of the alleged take-off grant for the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), received N400 million through proxies, manipulated appointments, abused his office, influenced the national budget process, misused security agencies, acted under the influence of intoxicating substances while performing official duties, and participated in murder and a criminal cover-up.

The lawyers described the allegations as damaging to Gbajabiamila’s reputation, arguing that they portrayed him as corrupt, dishonest, criminally culpable and unfit to hold public office.

They demanded that Adeyemi, within 72 hours, stop making further defamatory statements, remove the disputed press conference and related publications from all platforms under his control, and issue a full, unequivocal and unreserved retraction and apology.

The legal team also requested that the apology be published with the same prominence as the original allegations in at least five national newspapers, across all platforms where the statements appeared, and on every social media account used to circulate them.

In addition, Adeyemi was asked to provide a written undertaking that he would refrain from making further defamatory statements against the Chief of Staff.

The lawyers warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period would lead to both civil and criminal proceedings.

According to the letter, the proposed legal action includes a criminal complaint for alleged criminal defamation under the laws of the Federal Capital Territory and a civil suit seeking N10 billion in aggravated and exemplary damages. The legal team said any damages awarded would be donated to charities selected by Gbajabiamila.

They also intend to seek a perpetual injunction restraining Adeyemi from making further defamatory publications and a mandatory court order compelling him to publish a retraction and apology.

The legal dispute follows Adeyemi’s June 25 press conference, during which he accused Gbajabiamila of seeking a share of the alleged take-off funds of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, receiving money through intermediaries, abusing his office and participating in efforts to conceal wrongdoing.
