Former Governor of Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Chief (Mrs.) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo, wife of the late former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo.

In a condolence message issued on Tuesday, Daniel said he received the news of Mama Lucia’s passing with profound sadness but in total submission to the will of Almighty God. Chief Mrs. Onabanjo reportedly passed away on Monday, January 11, 2026, after a long and fulfilled life that spanned over a century.

Describing the deceased as a woman of grace, dignity, and deep faith, the former governor noted that Mama Lucia distinguished herself as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was anchored on strong family values and moral uprightness.

Daniel recalled that Mama Lucia stood firmly beside her husband, Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo—widely regarded as one of Ogun State’s most principled leaders—and played a quiet but significant role in nurturing a family whose legacy remains deeply rooted in the political and moral history of the state.

According to him, her life was defined by humility, resilience, and service, virtues that will continue to resonate through generations of the Onabanjo family and all who came in contact with her.

On behalf of his family, the people of Ogun East Senatorial District, and the entire people of Ogun State, the senator extended heartfelt condolences to the Onabanjo family, praying that God grants them the strength and comfort to bear the irreparable loss.

While mourning her departure, Daniel expressed gratitude to God for a life well spent and for the enduring values Mama Lucia upheld, praying that her soul finds eternal rest and that her memory remains a blessing to all.
