Former presidential candidate, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Accord Party, further expanding the list of aspirants positioning ahead of the next general elections.
Olawepo-Hashim announced his decision following a series of consultations with key political stakeholders and national leaders, who reportedly urged him to enter the race as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen opposition politics in the country.
Speaking during his declaration, the former presidential hopeful stressed the need for urgent national rebuilding, saying Nigeria requires leadership focused on unity, economic revival and institutional reforms.
According to him, the country cannot continue on its current path if meaningful progress is to be achieved. He maintained that his presidential ambition is driven by a desire to restore public confidence in governance and provide a fresh direction for the nation.
Olawepo-Hashim also described his decision to contest as a response to growing concerns over the state of the economy, national cohesion and governance challenges facing Nigerians.
