Gunmen Abduct Adelabu’s Sister, Twin Sons During School Run in Ibadan

The family of Adebayo Adelabu has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, alongside her twin sons, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The incident, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by Adelabu’s media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, occurred in the early hours of June 3, 2026.

Mrs. John-Paul, 43, was reportedly kidnapped at about 7:30 a.m. while taking her children to school. Her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were also seized by the gunmen during the attack.

The family said the victims were intercepted and forcefully taken away by armed assailants during the school run, raising fresh concerns over security challenges in the state.

Mrs. John-Paul is a former employee of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and First Bank Pension Custodian. She reportedly took voluntary retirement last year and relocated to Ibadan with her children while making arrangements to join her husband in the United States.

According to the statement, security and law enforcement agencies were immediately alerted and have since commenced investigations into the incident.

The family expressed confidence that authorities are working to secure the safe release of the victims and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

While lamenting the abduction, Adelabu and his family appealed to members of the public to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified information that could jeopardise ongoing rescue efforts.

They also called for prayers and support, urging anyone with credible information that could assist investigations to contact security agencies through the appropriate channels.

The family pledged continued cooperation with law enforcement authorities and assured the public that updates would be provided as developments unfold.

When contacted for confirmation, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka, said he could not immediately verify the report.

“I cannot independently verify this for now, but please hold on,” he stated.
