Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has successfully scaled the screening exercise conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Screening Committee in Abuja as preparations intensify for the party’s 2027 governorship primary election in Lagos State.
Speaking after the exercise on Saturday, Hamzat described the screening process as thorough, transparent and in line with the democratic ideals of the APC.
According to him, the exercise focused on verifying the credentials, experience and records submitted by aspirants seeking to contest under the party’s platform.
“The screening was designed to verify the credentials, records and experiences submitted by aspirants seeking to fly the APC flag. The essence of the exercise is to ensure that everything submitted is accurate and verifiable,” Hamzat said.
“We submitted all required documents and the committee asked questions based on the information provided. It was essentially to confirm that what was written truly reflects one’s experience and service.”
The deputy governor disclosed that members of the screening panel carefully reviewed his credentials and sought clarifications regarding aspects of his professional background, years of public service and responsibilities handled while in government.
Hamzat expressed confidence in the APC primary process, insisting that the party remains committed to internal democracy.
“I am very comfortable with my party and confident in the democratic process. Ultimately, the decision rests with party members and the people. Our responsibility is to continue offering our best in service to the state and the country,” he stated.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to the continued growth and development of Lagos State, stressing that leadership must remain focused on improving the welfare and living conditions of citizens.
Hamzat added that Lagos has continued to stand out as a model for innovation, governance and development in Nigeria, expressing optimism that the state would sustain its progress under visionary leadership.
