The National Director of Media Monitoring and Rapid Response of the City Boy Movement, Bashir Ahmad, has denied claims that he secured only 16 votes during the 2022 All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election.
The controversy resurfaced on Thursday after Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, mocked Ahmad in a viral social media post, claiming that the former presidential aide polled just 16 votes during the primary.
Reacting in a post on his official X account on Friday, Ahmad dismissed the claim, insisting that the 2022 primary was not a credible election.
Ahmad said it was “simply not true” that he received 16 votes, arguing that the process that produced the party’s candidate was allegedly compromised.
According to him, if a credible primary had been conducted, he was confident of emerging as the winner.
He further alleged that there was verifiable evidence showing how the exercise was manipulated, including videos and other materials.
However, Ahmad did not release the alleged evidence alongside his latest statement.
He also urged Davido, his supporters and others circulating the 16-vote claim to stop presenting the figure as the outcome of a legitimate APC primary.
Ahmad maintained that the figures being circulated did not reflect a transparent or credible electoral process.
He added that he would reveal more details about the disputed primary at a later date, saying, “The full story will be told at the appropriate time.”
