‘I Said What I Said’ — YCee Stands by Peller Criticism

Nigerian singer YCee has refused to apologise for his controversial “olodo uprising” comment, insisting he was right to mention popular TikToker Peller while criticising the rise of what he described as “brain-rot” content in Nigeria.

The singer came under fire after accusing Nigerians of embracing low-value entertainment over educational content, with many faulting him for mentioning Peller by name.

Speaking during an interview on Cool FM Lagos, YCee said he had no regrets over his comments.

“Some people are saying I shouldn’t have called Peller’s name, but I said what I said. If you feel offended, you should check yourself,” he said.

YCee also argued that many people misunderstood his message, adding that the backlash only reinforced his point.

“The olodo uprising is even worse than I thought because there are so many people coming out to defend it,” he added.

According to the singer, his message was aimed at encouraging more intelligent and educational content online.

“My call is to people that are tired of brain-rot contents. There is no reason why intelligent people cannot be streamers or content creators,” he said.

His remarks have continued to generate debate on social media, with some supporting his call for more meaningful content, while others accused him of unfairly targeting Peller and looking down on content creators.
