The Ogunnusi Oloko Family of Arapagi-Oloko Village in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State has escalated its petition over the alleged illegal sale of its ancestral land, drawing the attention of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Nigeria Police to the matter.
The family accused one Mr. Sakiru Ganiyu of unlawfully presenting himself as the head of the family and authorising land transactions without consent.
According to the family, documents obtained from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) contradict Ganiyu’s claim. They said his name does not appear among the registered trustees or principal officers of the Ogunnusi Oloko Family Association, which was incorporated in 2013.
The CAC records, the family stated, list recognised family heads and trustees, including Elder Mumuni Oloko, who is widely acknowledged as the legitimate head of the family.
In an earlier petition addressed to the Paramount Ruler of Ibeju Land, Oba Waliu Oniwolu, and now escalated to the Lagos State Government and security agencies, the family alleged that Ganiyu submitted family documents bearing forged or unauthorised signatures of senior family members.
A formal resolution issued by the family association also warned against illegal and unapproved land sales, vowing to prosecute any individual found culpable in such transactions. The family said the alleged activities persisted despite repeated internal interventions and appeals.
The petition further alleged that Ganiyu recently wrote to the Lagos State Attorney-General against some principal members of the family, a move described as an attempt to legitimise disputed land deals through unsubstantiated claims.
In its appeal to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the family urged the state government to intervene to halt further land sales, protect unsuspecting buyers, and safeguard communal land ownership in Ibeju-Lekki, a coastal corridor currently under intense real-estate pressure.
The family also called on the Nigeria Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations.
As of press time, Mr. Ganiyu had yet to respond to the claims, while officials of the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police had not issued any official statements on the matter.
