The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has confirmed the arrest of 53 suspects linked to the recent deadly attacks that rocked communities in Benue and Plateau states, claiming dozens of lives and displacing many.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Egbetokun described the June 13 massacre in Yelewata, Benue State, as a *“coordinated attack of terror”* that resulted in the death of 47 people and left 27 others severely injured.
He revealed that 26 suspects were arrested in connection with the Yelewata killings, while 22 were apprehended in Plateau State for similar attacks. Additionally, five other suspects were arrested for a more recent assault in Benue.
According to the police chief, two general-purpose machine guns and eight AK-47 rifles were recovered from the assailants, underscoring the deadly sophistication of the attackers.
He assured the public that the Nigeria Police Force is committed to restoring peace and bringing all perpetrators to justice.
