Veteran Nollywood actor Olaiya Igwe has firmly denied circulating reports that he is seriously ill, following the spread of a video showing him appearing unwell.
The footage began circulating widely on social media on Thursday, September 10, 2026, prompting concern from fans and sparking online speculation about the actor’s health.
In a statement shared on his Instagram page, Olaiya clarified that the video was captured during the filming of a movie directed by fellow actor and filmmaker Mr Latin (Oga Latin). He explained that he was simply portraying a sick father in one of the scenes, a role that some viewers mistook for a genuine medical emergency.
The actor also expressed strong disapproval of individuals who celebrated the false reports and appeared to wish him harm. At the same time, he thanked those who reached out with genuine concern to check on his well-being.
Assuring fans, colleagues, and the public, Olaiya stated that he is in good health and has no medical issues linked to the viral clip. He said:
“I have seen some stupid set of people wishing me to die. Is it their father that will fall sick and die? And for those that are genuinely concerned, please relax. There’s no problem. I was only acting my role, as you all know, I am a versatile actor.
“It was an Oga Latin movie we were shooting, and one of the scenes required me to play a sick father. It went viral and has brought lots of concern to the general public, though some understood that I was only acting while some felt I was sick and have been checking up on me. And we have some too that were happy that finally their wish had come to pass on me.
“For as many wishing me evil, evil will be their portion. I am okay and there’s nothing wrong with me.”
The clarification has helped calm public anxiety, reaffirming Olaiya Igwe’s status as a versatile performer whose on-screen roles can sometimes blur the lines with reality for viewers.
