Hundreds of Islamic scholars, under the umbrella of the Association of Nigerian Imams, on Wednesday converged at the Dutse Emir’s Palace Juma’at Mosque in Garu, Jigawa State, to offer special prayers for divine guidance and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umar Namadi and other leaders across the country.
During the session, the scholars recited the complete Holy Qur’an and offered over 1,000 prayers, seeking wisdom, success and divine intervention for the President and state governors as they confront Nigeria’s socio-economic and security challenges, with an emphasis on peace, unity and sustainable development.
The prayer session was led by the National Chairman of the Association, Sheikh Muhammad Adam, and was attended by the Jigawa State Secretary to the Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim; the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Mohammed Hamim Nuhu; and the Chairman of Dutse Local Government Council, Dr Sibo Abdullahi, alongside national and state executives of the association.
Speaking to journalists after the prayers, Sheikh Adam said the initiative was part of a nationwide programme tagged National Prayer for Peace, Unity and Divine Guidance, aimed at seeking Allah’s intervention in the affairs of the nation.
He described the exercise as timely, noting that Nigeria was at a critical juncture that required strong leadership, collective resolve and divine guidance to overcome prevailing challenges.
“Nigeria is a nation blessed with abundant resources and resilient people. Through prayers, humility and unity of purpose, we can achieve peace, justice and prosperity,” he said.
Sheikh Adam explained that prayers were specifically offered for President Tinubu and Governor Namadi because effective leadership at both federal and state levels was crucial to addressing insecurity and driving social development.
He disclosed that the prayer programme, which began in Kano State on January 15, 2026, is being observed across the 19 northern states, with the participation of Imams, traditional rulers and civil society groups. Jigawa State, he added, hosted the session on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
The association also appealed to Nigerians of all faiths to join in prayers for national healing, unity and lasting peace, particularly in regions affected by conflict and insecurity.
Also speaking at the event, the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Mohammed Hamim Nuhu, urged Islamic scholars to intensify sermons on peace and unity, describing them as the foundation of development.
He cautioned Muslims against making derogatory comments about leaders, stressing that such acts are prohibited in Islam.
“Be prayerful and make good supplications for the country and its leaders, because the outcome will reflect on all of us,” the monarch said, while commending the organisers and Imams for their commitment to the prayer session
