Joke Silva Named Head Judge for 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards

Sterling Nigerian actress Joke Silva has been appointed as Head Judge for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), set to hold on Saturday, May 9, 2026. The announcement was made during a press briefing at the MultiChoice studio in Ilupeju, Lagos, on Thursday, March 26.

The 12th AMVCA promises to be a landmark edition, highlighting both the stars and the behind-the-scenes talent that power Africa’s film and television industry. Atinuke Babatunde, Executive Head of Content and Channels, MultiChoice West Africa, said the awards continue to celebrate craftsmanship across the continent.

“Beyond the lights, the red carpet, and the applause, there is a deeper story – one of craftsmanship. The writers, the directors, the editors, the designers, the technicians – the many hands and minds that shape the stories we love,” Babatunde said.

This year, the AMVCAs will expand its Indigenous Language categories, introducing Best Indigenous Language  North Africa and Best Indigenous Language – Central Africa, cementing the awards’ commitment to pan-African representation and cultural diversity.

The 12th edition features 32 award categories, including 18 jury-decided awards, 11 public voting awards, and three special recognitions for Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer. Don Julio leads as the main sponsor, with Guinness, Singleton, Onga, Johnnie Walker, Orijin, MTN, Smirnoff Ice, QuickTeller, Verve, Indomie, and Lush Hair as co-sponsors.

The much-anticipated nominee announcement will air live on Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 7 PM on Africa Magic channels, hosted by AMVCA-winning actor Chiemezie Imo.

Since its inception in 2013, the AMVCAs have played a pivotal role in Africa’s creative economy, generating over 30,000 jobs across production, design, sound, and other film sectors. The awards have consistently championed African stories and provided a platform for talent to shine on a continental stage.
