Celtic have opened contract talks with Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho following his impressive performances for the Scottish Premiership champions last season.
Iheanacho, who joined the Hoops on a free transfer, played a key role in the club’s domestic double, scoring crucial goals against Kilmarnock, Dundee, Hibernian and Motherwell.
Despite being linked with a move to Turkey, the 29-year-old is now expected to remain at Celtic as the club looks to secure his future.
Celtic manager Martin O’Neill confirmed that discussions are ongoing to re-sign the former Manchester City forward.
“I’d like to do something with him (Iheanacho). If we can do something relatively quickly, at least he then gets started in pre-season, which is really important for him. It’s something he didn’t have last year,” O’Neill said.
