The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election in Kwara State, Abdulmumin Yinka Ajia, has promised to build a safer, more productive state driven by inclusive governance and sustainable development.
Ajia made the pledge in a statement issued on Saturday while formally accepting his nomination as the NDC flagbearer for the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.
The university professor used the occasion to reject what he described as the politics of godfatherism, imposed leadership and transactional governance, insisting that the people must once again become the focal point of governance in the state.
“We reject the politics of godfatherism, imposed leadership and transactional governance that has weakened public confidence in our democracy. We declare once again that the people of Kwara State must become the centre of governance,” he stated.
Ajia said his emergence as the party’s candidate should not be viewed as a personal triumph but as a responsibility to address the concerns of ordinary citizens struggling with economic hardship and limited opportunities.
According to him, the mission goes beyond politics and speaks directly to the aspirations of millions of residents seeking improved living conditions, job opportunities and responsive leadership.
He expressed concern over the growing challenges facing young people, noting that many possess talent, creativity and ambition but remain trapped by unemployment, hopelessness and exclusion from opportunities.
The NDC candidate also thanked party leaders, stakeholders and supporters across the state for their confidence in his candidacy and commitment to the party’s vision.
Ajia further highlighted the difficulties confronting rural communities, farmers, civil servants and families, arguing that many residents have been left behind by weak infrastructure, economic pressures and inadequate public services.
He pledged to run a campaign focused on practical solutions and measurable outcomes, anchored on economic opportunities, institutional reforms, job creation and improved service delivery.
According to him, his administration would prioritise building strong institutions, creating a credible employment pipeline for young people and ensuring reliable access to quality education and healthcare services.
The governorship hopeful said the ultimate goal of his campaign is to restore public trust in government and deliver a development agenda that directly improves the lives of Kwarans ahead of the 2027 elections.
