Kwara Group Warns APC Against “Political Suicide” Over Saliu Mustapha’s 2027 Ambition

A Kwara-based advocacy group, the Kwara Citizens Movement for Ethical Politics and Good Governance (KCMEPGG), has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Presidency against endorsing Senator Saliu Mustapha as the party’s preferred governorship candidate for the 2027 election, warning that such a move could prove politically damaging.

In a strongly worded statement, the group urged the ruling party to avoid what it described as a “political miscalculation,” insisting that the people of Kwara State deserve credible leadership. It added that the Presidency, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, should be guided by “honesty and genuine loyalty,” while Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq should be succeeded by a trustworthy and capable leader.

The group’s statement comes shortly after the Ilorin Emirate Political Advisory Council (IEPAC) reportedly endorsed Mustapha for the governorship race.

KCMEPGG alleged that there are ongoing efforts to influence the 2027 electoral process through “propaganda, financial inducement, and misinformation,” claiming that such tactics could undermine both the APC leadership and the state government.

Raising questions about Mustapha’s background, the group challenged the senator’s track record prior to the 2023 elections, asking for clarity on his contributions to public service, business enterprise, and economic development in Kwara State. It also called for transparency regarding the sources of his campaign resources.

Furthermore, the group expressed concern over alleged political associations, citing reports and images suggesting links between Mustapha and opposition figure Bukola Saraki. It questioned the consistency of the senator’s loyalty to the APC and its leadership.

KCMEPGG concluded by urging the APC to prioritize candidates with verifiable credentials, proven service records, and strong grassroots support, warning that any deviation from these standards could have serious political consequences for the party in Kwara State.
