Lagos Orders Full Probe After Ambulance Incident at 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon Finish Line

The Lagos State Government has ordered a comprehensive investigation into an incident involving an ambulance at the finish line of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

The incident occurred near the closing stretch of the 11th edition of the internationally recognised race on Sunday. The ambulance, part of the marathon’s official emergency medical response team, was transporting runners who had earlier required medical attention when it came into contact with a female non-athlete within the event arena.

Emergency Response Swift
Event officials immediately signalled the ambulance crew to halt, allowing emergency responders to quickly attend to the woman at the scene. She was administered first aid before being transferred to a public health facility for further medical evaluation.

According to initial reports, the woman sustained bruises and complained of chest pain. However, medical personnel confirmed that she was stabilised at the scene, with her vital signs remaining steady.

Government Monitoring Situation
In an official statement, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, disclosed that the patient is responding positively to treatment and remains under close medical supervision.

He added that both the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Sports Commission are actively monitoring developments.

Senior government officials have also visited the hospital as part of efforts to ensure transparency and accountability while the investigation proceeds.

Authorities say the probe will determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and help strengthen safety protocols at future sporting events.
