Manchester United Make Rashford Decision as Barcelona Transfer Stalls

Manchester United have handed Marcus Rashford the No. 14 shirt ahead of the 2026/27 season, signalling that the England forward could remain part of the club’s plans.

Rashford spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Barcelona after falling out of favour at Old Trafford.

However, Barcelona have reportedly decided against exercising their option to sign the forward permanently, leaving his future uncertain ahead of the new season.

With no permanent transfer currently secured, Manchester United have now assigned Rashford the No. 14 shirt.

The decision comes after his former No. 10 shirt was taken by new signing Matheus Cunha.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United’s decision to give Rashford a new squad number is a sign that the club are prepared to reintegrate him into the team.

Romano wrote on X: “EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United decide to give Marcus Rashford new squad number as message to trust him and include as part of the team.

“Understand Rashford will wear number 14 shirt and now travelling with the team.

“Unless top European club bid arrives, he can stay.”

Rashford’s next move could therefore depend on whether a major European club submits an acceptable offer before the transfer window closes.
