Miracle Ezechukwu Blazes to Season’s Fastest Time at MTN CHAMPS Continental Relays

Miracle Ezechukwu delivered a stunning performance to emerge as Nigeria’s fastest woman this season, headlining a thrilling Day 2 of the MTN CHAMPS Continental Relays at the New Jos Stadium.

Competing in the Junior women’s 100m semifinals, the N-Youth Sports sprinter stormed to a remarkable 11.26 seconds, setting a new U-20 meet record and the fastest time recorded by any Nigerian woman in 2026. She later returned to defend her title in the final with a time of 11.42 seconds.

Lucy Nwankwo (11.65s) and Rosemary Nwankwo (11.78s), both representing Team MTN, completed the podium, having earlier secured qualification for the World U-20 Championships with impressive semifinal runs.

In the Junior men’s 100m, Emmanuel Akolo announced his arrival in style, clinching victory in a wind-aided 10.63 seconds—the fastest mark of his career. He led a clean sweep for MoC Athletics Academy, ahead of Reuben Destiny (10.74s) and Alvin Onyeama (10.76s).

The senior events also produced standout performances, with Okechukwu Ezeh winning the men’s 100m in 10.61 seconds, while Toheebat Jimoh claimed the women’s title in a personal best of 12.03 seconds.

In the 400m races, Ezekiel Asuquo (Team MTN) dominated the men’s event with a lifetime best of 46.26 seconds, ahead of Benjamin Magaji and Mfoniso Frank, who both recorded personal bests.

Michael Aniche surged late to win the Junior men’s 400m in 48.19 seconds, while Faustina Obi edged Chioma Edeh to take gold in the women’s senior 400m.

Rising talents also shone in the youth and cadet categories. Fervent Edet upgraded to gold in the Youth Boys’ 100m with 11.15 seconds, while Rebecca Enilolobo topped the Youth Girls’ race. In the U-14 division, Honor Anthony and Attach Boyi emerged as the fastest young athletes in their categories.

The MTN CHAMPS Continental Relays continue with highly anticipated relay finals and middle-distance events, promising more excitement as Nigeria’s next generation of track stars take center stage.
