Popular Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson Okojie has come under intense criticism on social media following her unveiling as a brand ambassador for Girls Tag, a menstrual care brand whose product reportedly costs N25,000.
Girls Tag, introduced as an all-in-one menstrual care package for girls aged nine and above, recently launched with Mercy Johnson and her daughter, Purity Okojie, serving as ambassadors for the brand. Shortly after the unveiling, actress Regina Daniels was also announced as one of the brand’s ambassadors.
Despite the brand’s launch attracting attention online, many Nigerians have criticised the product’s reported price tag, describing it as unrealistic and insensitive given the country’s current economic realities.
Several social media users argued that millions of women and young girls across Nigeria still struggle to afford basic sanitary products, with some reportedly resorting to unsafe alternatives or missing school during their menstrual cycles due to financial constraints.
The backlash has continued to spark conversations around menstrual hygiene accessibility, affordability, and the role celebrities play in endorsing premium products targeted at young consumers.
