The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that Nigeria’s National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment has climbed to no fewer than 127 million as of December 2025.
The confirmation was given by the commission’s spokesman, Dr Kayode Adegoke, who said updated nationwide statistics would soon be published on the NIMC website.
Adegoke urged Nigerians yet to enrol, as well as those seeking corrections or updates, to take advantage of the commission’s digital platforms for registration and other NIN-related services.
Available data on the NIMC website showed that as of October 31, 2025, about 123.9 million Nigerians had been enrolled, with Lagos State leading the country’s registration figures at 13.1 million.
“The highest cumulative enrolment figure of over 13 million was recorded in Lagos State. Regional figures indicate an almost equal distribution across the North and South,” the commission stated.
Other states with high enrolment numbers include Kano with 11.5 million, Kaduna with 7.3 million, Ogun with 5.1 million, Oyo with 4.7 million, and Katsina with 4.2 million.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, recorded 4.06 million enrolments, while Rivers State had 3.6 million. Delta and Bauchi states followed with 3.2 million each.
At the lower end of the scale, Kwara and Imo states recorded 2.09 million enrolments each, Yobe had 2.08 million, Enugu recorded 2 million, while Kogi State had the lowest figure at 1.9 million.
Gender-disaggregated data showed that as of October 2025, a total of 54.2 million females had been captured in the national database, compared to about 69.7 million males.
The commission said the steady rise in enrolment reflects growing public awareness of the importance of a unified national identity system for governance, security, and service delivery.
