Nollywood Actress Cynthia Anijekwu Seeks Help as Cancer Returns, Spreads to Bones

Popular Nollywood actress Cynthia Anijekwu has appealed to Nigerians and well-wishers for financial assistance after revealing that her battle with cancer has taken a devastating turn, with the disease returning and spreading to her bones.

The actress made the emotional appeal on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, in a video shared on social media, where she disclosed that she has been receiving treatment since she was first diagnosed with cancer in 2023.

According to Anijekwu, she initially underwent surgery and chemotherapy, and doctors were able to bring the illness under control. However, the cancer later returned, forcing her to resume treatment.

She said recent medical examinations confirmed that the disease had spread to her bones, making her condition more critical and significantly increasing the cost of treatment.

“I had cancer in 2023. I did my surgery and took chemotherapy, but later it came back again. I’ve been in and out of the hospital,” she said.

“The doctor recently told me it has reached my bones, and the treatment is now much more expensive.”

The actress disclosed that doctors have recommended radiation therapy and another surgery as part of her ongoing treatment.

She added that the financial burden has become overwhelming, with her medical expenses now estimated at about ₦600,000 every month.

“I need to live. I need to survive. I’m asking Nigerians to please help me. Anyone that can help, please, I need help,” she pleaded.

Anijekwu further revealed that the cancer has affected both of her breasts and caused swelling in her hands, making her daily struggle even more challenging.

“Your one naira, your two naira can add up to something reasonable for me to get the proper treatment for this cancer. I’m begging you, please help me,” she said.

Before her health challenges, Anijekwu featured in several English and Igbo-language Nollywood productions, earning recognition within the Nigerian film industry.

Her public appeal has since drawn sympathy from fans, colleagues and members of the public, while also drawing attention to the financial burden faced by many Nigerians living with long-term medical conditions.

As she continues her fight against the disease, the actress has appealed to individuals, organisations and well-wishers to support her in accessing the life-saving treatment she urgently needs.
