Leaders and stakeholders in Enugu North Senatorial District, popularly known as Nsukka Zone, have thrown their weight behind President Bola Tinubu and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for a second term in office, pointing to what they described as “measurable achievements” and transformative governance.
The endorsement came during a mega rally held at Nsukka Township Stadium, where political leaders, traditional rulers, youth and women groups unanimously backed both leaders. The zone also presented a cheque of ₦102 million to support Governor Mbah’s reelection nomination form.
Speaking at the event, key figures including Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Samuel Asadu, praised the administrations for delivering tangible development across the district.
The Nsukka Zone, which comprises six local government areas—Nsukka, Igboeze North, Igboeze South, Udenu, Uzo Uwani, and Igbo Etiti—highlighted major federal and state projects as justification for their endorsement.
A motion endorsing President Tinubu, moved by Hon. Dennis Agbo and seconded by Hon. Mark Obetta, cited ongoing federal infrastructure such as the Oturkpo–Obollo Afor–9th Mile Enugu Expressway, Enugu–Port Harcourt dual carriageway, and progress on the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway. Other achievements listed include the concession of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, the establishment of the South East Development Commission, and plans to fast-track the Port Harcourt–Enugu rail line.
The district also noted increased inclusion of Enugu indigenes in federal appointments and the connection of the state to the national gas grid as key milestones under Tinubu’s leadership.
At the state level, lawmakers led by Deputy Speaker Ezenta Ezeani commended Governor Mbah’s performance, describing his leadership as “result-driven.” They pointed to improvements in security, ongoing road dualisation projects, the expansion of the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), and the rollout of Smart Green Schools and modern primary healthcare centres.
“Leadership is judged by outcomes, not promises,” Ezeani said, stressing that continuity had become necessary given the administration’s track record.
In his remarks, Governor Mbah thanked the people for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Nsukka into a major economic and educational hub. He referenced the appointment of an Nsukka indigene as Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, describing it as the breaking of a 65-year jinx achieved under Tinubu’s presidency.
Mbah also outlined ongoing and planned infrastructure projects, including the completion of the Enugu–Ugwogo Nike–Opi–Nsukka Road by October 2026 and a proposed 135.5km rail line to boost economic integration across the state.
Additionally, the governor flagged off road projects spanning about 70 kilometres, including the 52.2km Nguru–Lejja–Aku–Akpakume Nze–Egede–Affa–Eke corridor, emphasizing the role of infrastructure in driving economic growth.
He reiterated his broader vision to expand Enugu State’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion, while maintaining a people-centered approach to development.
The rally signals growing political momentum in the South East as stakeholders begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
