Nigerian comedian Okey Bakassi has announced a ₦5 million reward for information that could lead to the recovery of eight mobile phones stolen during a private football match in Ikoyi, Lagos.
In a video shared on Instagram on Thursday, Bakassi said the incident occurred during the group’s regular Wednesday evening football session on April 15, 2026.
According to him, an unidentified man joined the game after being warmly welcomed by the group. The suspect reportedly played briefly before stepping aside, claiming to be injured.
Bakassi alleged that while attention remained on the match, the individual seized the opportunity to steal eight mobile phones belonging to players and fled the venue unnoticed.
He noted that the stolen devices belong to businessmen who rely heavily on their phones for daily operations, making the incident particularly urgent.
The comedian warned that the suspect may attempt to quickly sell the phones at discounted prices and urged members of the public to be vigilant when purchasing second-hand devices.
He also confirmed that the police have been informed and are actively working to track down the suspect, though operational details were not disclosed.
Bakassi issued a 24-hour ultimatum for the return of the phones to the security post at the venue, stressing that failure to comply would trigger intensified efforts to apprehend the culprit.
“If you’re the one who came out this evening to play with us and you feel that the way to pay us back is to cart away phones and vanish, we will find you,” he said. “You have the next 24 hours to return those phones back to the security post.”
He further appealed to the public for assistance, offering a ₦5 million reward to anyone who can help track any of the stolen devices.
“For everyone who knows how to track phones, contact me in my DM. There’s five million naira waiting for whoever can track any one of those phones,” he added.
Bakassi also advised second-hand phone buyers to properly verify sellers’ identities to avoid purchasing stolen property.
