Vice President Kashim Shettima and former President Olusegun Obasanjo have been confirmed as key dignitaries for the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Olota of Ota, His Majesty, Professor Adeyemi AbdulKabir Obalanlege (Lanlege Ekun II), as preparations gather momentum for the monarch’s 60th birthday anniversary.

The revered Awori traditional ruler officially unveiled the anniversary logo and inaugurated a planning committee to coordinate the week-long festivities scheduled to hold from August 21 to August 28, 2026, in Ota, Ogun State.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Olota’s Principal Secretary, Prince Adeyemi Sulaimon Olusesi.

According to the statement, Vice President Shettima will serve as the Special Guest of Honour and Chairman of the grand reception, while former President Obasanjo has been designated as the Father of the Day for the historic celebration, which is expected to attract prominent personalities from across Nigeria.

Speaking on the significance of the newly unveiled Diamond Jubilee logo, the palace described it as a symbol of the monarch’s enduring legacy, leadership and service to humanity.

“The logo stands as a visual celebration of six remarkable decades of purposeful leadership, cultural stewardship, scholarship and service to humanity,” Olusesi stated.

The palace noted that the gold and purple-themed insignia reflects the strength, dignity and royal heritage of Lanlege Ekun II while commemorating his milestone 60th birthday.

As part of the preparations, the Olota approved a three-member planning committee comprising Aare Ayodele Bankole, Otun Maiyegun of Ota, as chairman; Chief Abayomi Olanrewaju Basorun, Seriki of Ota, as member; and High Chief Adedayo Akindele Eleku, Lisa of Ota, as member.

Olusesi said the committee has been tasked with organising a befitting celebration for a monarch whose leadership has elevated Ottaland and the Awori people on both national and international stages.

The week-long programme will feature traditional rites, cultural exhibitions, religious activities, community engagements and other events highlighting the monarch’s contributions to traditional leadership and societal development.

The celebration will culminate in a grand reception on August 28, 2026, with legendary Fuji musician King Ayinde Marshal billed to perform.

Among other notable dignitaries expected at the event are Dapo Abiodun, who will serve as Chief Host; Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, named Host of the event; and Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, who will serve as Royal Father of the Day and Chairman-at-Large.

The Diamond Jubilee celebration is expected to honour Professor Obalanlege’s achievements in traditional leadership while showcasing the rich cultural heritage, unity and aspirations of the Awori people and the ancient kingdom of Ottaland.
