The member representing Ekiti Central Federal Constituency I of Ekiti State in the House of Representatives, Mr. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, has formally left the Labour Party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bamidele, who addressed newsmen in his home in Iyin-Ekiti, on Tuesday, said members of LP and members of his movement, Ekiti Bibiire Coalition, were now at liberty to attend APC meetings in their various wards in the state, saying that was “a decision that has already been taken at our leadership level.”
Bamidele, who was flanked by leaders of the coalition who also double as leaders of the LP in the state, led by its chairman, Mr. Akin Omole, said he was going to the APC to provide leadership to the party in the state.
“I am going to APC to ensure unity; I am going to APC to provide leadership and give a new face to the party in Ekiti State,” he said.
Speaking of the poor state of the party in Ekiti State, he asserted that “the APC, from today, will not be the APC Ekiti people rejected at the elections.”
He announced that he was a party to the emergence of the APC candidates in the presidential election and said it was gratifying that the party would form the government at the national level in some days ahead.
He said he was ‘heading back home’ and that he had worked as “a two-time member of the most successful cabinet in Lagos State, a member of which has become the vice-president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in waiting. So I know where I should belong.”
He described the emergence of factions in Ekiti APC as part of political alignment that was occasioned by the fact that the party won election at the centre, saying “if the party had not won election at the centre, all the factions that we are talking about in the state would not have emerged in the first place.”
