Our Support is Total” — Wike Shrugs Off APC Feud, Storms Rivers Grassroots to Solidify Tinubu’s 2026 Base

PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS – Amidst a high-stakes verbal war with the National Leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his “unwavering” allegiance to President Bola Tinubu.
Grassroots Offensive
In a defiant show of political force, Wike took to his official X account on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, to share updates on his intensive consultative tour across Rivers State. The Minister revealed that following successful mobilizations in Oyigbo and Ogu-Bolo LGAs, his team is moving into Akuku-Toru and Degema to consolidate support for the Presidency.
“Here, it is local politics and our support for Mr. President is total,” Wike declared, signaling that despite not officially holding an APC membership card, his machinery remains the primary engine for the President’s interests in the Niger Delta.
The APC Hierarchy Clash
Wike’s “total support” declaration comes at a strategic moment. It follows a blistering exchange with APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, who recently asserted that Wike lacks the “locus standi” to dictate Rivers APC affairs because he remains a member of the PDP.
Basiru had officially recognized Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the leader of the APC in Rivers State, a move Wike previously described as “undue interference.” By taking his message directly to the local governments, Wike appears to be demonstrating that while the party structure may be in dispute, the “street” remains loyal to his command.
2026 Political Realignment
As the 2027 electoral cycle begins to loom, Wike’s activities suggest a “politics of the people” strategy. He emphasized that his current mission is focused on grassroots engagement to ensure that the President’s “Renewed Hope” agenda has a solid foundation in Rivers State, regardless of the internal friction within the APC’s national working committee.
