The campaign council of Biodun Oyebanji has set an ambitious target of 500,000 votes ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.
The Director-General of the campaign council and senator representing Ekiti North Senatorial District, Cyril Fasuyi, disclosed this during the council’s inauguration meeting held in Ado Ekiti.
Fasuyi said the goal goes beyond securing victory, stressing that the campaign aims to mobilise a significantly higher number of eligible voters to participate in the election and deliver unprecedented support for the incumbent governor.
He recalled that Oyebanji polled less than 200,000 votes in the 2022 governorship election, with fewer than 400,000 total votes cast, but expressed optimism that voter turnout would rise considerably in 2026.
According to him, growing public confidence in the administration’s performance, coupled with intensified grassroots mobilisation across the state, is expected to drive increased participation.
The senator noted that the campaign council is implementing strategies to engage more voters, particularly youths and first-time participants, to ensure broader inclusion and a decisive outcome at the polls.
Fasuyi added that the ambition is to make history by delivering the highest number of votes ever recorded for a governorship candidate in Ekiti, positioning Oyebanji for a landmark re-election victory.
He described the forthcoming election as a “done deal,” expressing confidence in the party’s strategy, which he said is rooted in careful analysis of past voting patterns, lessons from previous elections, and current political dynamics.
The lawmaker further highlighted the strength of the party’s grassroots structure, statewide acceptance, and clear messaging on the governor’s achievements as key factors that would drive success.
He also urged residents of Ekiti State to reciprocate the governor’s performance by turning out en masse on election day, noting that strong voter support would silence critics.
Fasuyi, who also served as Director-General of Oyebanji’s 2022 campaign, appreciated members of the council for reappointing him and pledged to deliver on the mandate.
