Paul Onuachu Scores Landmark Goal as Trabzonspor Edge Galatasaray 2-1

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu scored his first-ever goal against Galatasaray, helping Trabzonspor secure a 2-1 victory over the league leaders at Papara Park on Saturday evening.

Onuachu opened the scoring with a powerful header, cutting Galatasaray’s lead in the match. The goal came from a precise cross by Wagner Pina, who had beaten Ismail Jakobs with a brilliant run before delivering the ball into the box.

Three Nigerian stars started the game for Trabzonspor, all contributing to the two goals scored by the home side. Chibuike Nwaiwu netted the second goal in the 62nd minute, assisted by Tony Nwakaeme.

The strike was a milestone for the 31-year-old Onuachu, who had previously struggled to score against the Istanbul giants. The goal raises his Süper Lig tally this season to 22, extending his lead as the league’s top scorer.

Onuachu has now scored against all three of Turkey’s traditional big clubs, having previously found the net twice against Fenerbahce and once against Besiktas. The header against Galatasaray also takes his overall Trabzonspor tally to 41 goals across all competitions, spanning his loan spell from Southampton in 2023-24 and his permanent move last summer.
